Meet Our Volunteers

Christine Galan, Heart and Liver Recipient, and a Manhattan Volunteer Team Leader
I am a volunteer because I truly believe that organ donation is the greatest gift of all. Because I was so fortunate to receive this incredible gift, I want to make sure everyone is informed about becoming organ and tissue donors.

For me, I had to wait so long in order to receive my organs and my body was failing me--I do not wish for anyone to go through this. Speaking about my experiences have helped some people to have a better understanding about the patients who wait for the call that an organ is available, but for many people, the call never comes.

In addition to speaking at blood drives, I have the pleasure of talking with the nurses-in-training at St. Vincent's Catholic Medical about my experience. This is in addition to my commitment to New York Organ Donor Network.

I truly enjoy hearing that people have enrolled in the New York Organ and Tissue Donor Registry or signed the back of their driver's licenses because of my and other recipient stories, and have told their families. I like being the pebble in the pond that causes the ripple effect.
