Introduction
New York Organ Donor Network volunteers are committed
to increasing awareness about organ and tissue donation among its
various publics within the Greater New York metropolitan area, including
the general population, health
care professionals, political leaders,
clergy
and business professionals.
For an organization that serves more than 13 million people, but
with less than one hundred staff members, volunteers provide a critical
life source. Without volunteers, we simply cannot effectively spread
the important message about organ and tissue donation.

Who
are our volunteers?
New York Organ Donor Network volunteers come to
us from many different backgrounds. A volunteer may be a family member
of a donor, or a friend of a donor. The individual might be someone
who has had an organ or tissue transplant. Or a volunteer may, for
some other reason, be someone with a special interest in promoting
awareness about organ and tissue donation and transplantation.

Training
for volunteers
When someone commits to volunteering, the New York
Organ Donor Network provides the necessary training to ready them
with the necessary tools to inform others about organ and tissue donation.
Each quarter, the Donor Network schedules training
clinics for volunteers on a variety of topics, including presentation
skills, health fairs representation, and special event hosting.
Each volunteer receives a training manual with pertinent information
about the subject so that they may always have the up-to-date statistics
on the subject.
