What Can You Do Now?

The most important thing you can do now is to obtain enough information about tissue donation to allow yourself to make an informed decision. Then sign your New York State driver's license to indicate your wish to be a donor, enroll in the New York State Organ and Tissue Donor Registry, tell your family about your decision and fill out a Family Notification Form.
You should also ask your family members if they've thought about tissue donation and if they've made any decisions about giving the gift of life.
Now is the time to begin the conversation. Although death and donation are not typical topics of conversation, take the time now to think about donating, and learn about your family's wishes, so that they can be carried out.
