2005 DATA

Did you know that in 2005, there were only 261 deceased organ donors in the entire Greater New York metropolitan area? That translated into a consent rate of just 48%, compared to the national consent rate of 59%.

Deceased Organ Donors:

In 2005, there were 261 deceased organ donors in the Greater New York metropolitan area.

  • In 2005, the New York Organ Donor Network received 1,790 hospital referrals for organ donation.
  • From all referrals, 592 cases were medically suitable for organ donation and 45 were consented organ donors that could not be recovered.
  • Of the 306 families that consented to organ donation, 261 became donors.
  • The consent rate of those families of patients who were approached for organ donation in the Greater New York metropolitan area in 2005 was 48% (Compared to 55% in the U.S.)
