New York, NY, April 6, 2009 – The New York Organ Donor Network has named Julie L. Mirkin, MA, RN, as vice president of operations, a newly created position at the nonprofit, federally designated organ procurement organization that serves the greater New York metropolitan area.
Announcing the appointment, Elaine Berg, the Donor Network’s president and CEO, said, “Ms. Mirkin’s primary responsibilities will be to oversee our hospital and family services department, and clinical operations.”
Ms. Mirkin is a veteran in the field of health care management, performance improvement and clinical leadership. Her most recent position was as senior vice president for patient care services at the Nassau Health Care Corporation, which she joined in 2005. Prior to that, Ms. Mirkin served from 1997 through 2005 as vice president for patient care services at St. John’s Episcopal Health Services, Inc. in Far Rockaway.
After beginning her nursing career in 1980 as a staff nurse at North Shore University Hospital, Ms. Mirkin held increasingly senior positions there, including director of nursing for surgical services and director of care coordination.
Ms. Mirkin earned her bachelor’s of science degree in nursing at SUNY at Stony Brook, and her master’s degree in nursing administration/executive role at Columbia University, Teacher’s College. In 2008, she completed the Wharton Fellowship Nurse Executive Program.
“Ms. Mirkin brings highly valuable leadership and clinical skills that will propel our organization and its mission forward in these challenging times,” Ms. Berg said. “We look forward with great excitement and anticipation to working with her as we endeavor to save many, many more lives through organ and tissue donation.”
