New York, New York - The Halachic Organ
Donor (HOD) Society, the Israeli Organ Donor Network and the
New York Organ Donor Network are joining hands to march in
the Salute to Israel Day Parade in Manhattan on June 4, in
order to raise awareness about the need for organ donation
from the Jewish community.
Most Jews mistakenly believe that organ donation
is forbidden by Jewish law (halacha). The HOD Society’s
website has numerous video testimonials from prominent Rabbis
expressing their support for organ donation and it has its
own unique organ donor card to make Jews feel more comfortable
in registering for an organ donor card. The HOD Society organ
donor card can be obtained by registering on-line at www.hods.org.
The HOD Society has thousands of Jewish members
and over 100 Orthodox Rabbis who carry a HOD Society organ
donor card, including Rabbi Shar Yoshuv Cohen, Chief Rabbi
of Haifa, Rabbi Shlomo Riskin, Chief Rabbi of Efrat, Rabbi
Shlomo Aviner, Chief Rabbi of Bet El, and Rabbi Michael Schudrich,
Chief Rabbi of Poland.
Time: Gathering at 2:30 PM
sharp
Date: Sunday, June 4th, 2006
Assembly Point: E. 54th between 5th and Madison
