New York Organ Donor Network to Mark 25th Anniversary With a Benefit Dinner at Waldorf-Astoria on November 13 - October 14, 2003
The New York Organ Donor Network, the nation’s second largest organ procurement organization, serving 13 million people in the New York metropolitan area, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. To mark this important milestone, the Donor Network will hold its “Donate Life” Dinner at the Starlight Roof of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel on Thursday, November 13th. A cocktail reception at 6:30pm will be followed by dinner at 7:30pm.
The 25th Anniversary celebration will honor the Donor Network’s founders for their vision and extraordinary commitment to patient care, education, and the advancement of transplantation. These visionaries include Drs. Khalid Butt, Mark Hardy, William Stubenbord, Robert Soberman, Lewis Burrows and Vivian Tellis, who will be saluted by distinguished physicians, civic and corporate leaders, during the festivities.
A Community Service Award will be presented to donor parents Jean and Bob Carnevale, for their dedication to raising public awareness about donation. Mr. Carnevale is also a member of the Donor Network’s board of directors.
The evening will also pay tribute to donor families who, at times of profound sadness, put their own needs aside to preserve the value of human life. Of the more than 82,000 Americans awaiting organ transplants, more than 7,000 of them live in the New York Organ Donor Network’s service area.
The Dinner Chairman is Roger C. Altman, Chairman of Evercore Partners Inc., a former member of the Clinton administration, and a heart recipient. The Gala Vice-Chairmen are Lewis W. Teperman, M.D., Director of Transplantation at NYU Medical Center and chairperson of the Donor Network board of directors, and Rocco F. Andriola, Esq., Managing Director of Lehman Brothers, Inc. and Vice Chairperson of the Donor Network board.
All proceeds from this event will benefit the Donor Network’s public education programs.
