Organ donation works! Being a recipient of a kidney and pancreas transplant twice over, I have been truly blessed and have been reborn with God's miracle of life.
After struggling with diabetes, dialysis, two transplants, and strokes through many years, I am now a productive happy, healthy wife and mother! My father and an unknown donor, who both are true heroes, gave me this precious gift of life. My love goes out to them. They are the people that will always be forever in my heart and soul.
Now I am aware of what really counts in this lifetime; and that is love. Love of God, my family and my donors. Life is so precious; I never take it for granted, I live it to the fullest. Being a recipient has made me much stronger to face other challenges and obstacles along the way.
After I had received such a miraculous and beautiful gift of life, I wanted to share it with other people going through the same situation as I did. At the New York Organ Donor Network, I became a volunteer to spread awareness of organ and tissue donation, and to lend a helping hand for donors and recipients. This work has been both gratifying and spiritual to me. I have changed people's lives by just communicating with them the story of my life. People listen and see who and what I am about. By doing this, I have reached out and made a difference in their lives.
I always said that God puts us on this Earth for a purpose. My purpose was to go through trials and tribulations to understand what the true meaning of life is and to share it with others. Being a transplant recipient has changed my whole life around. I feel so happy to be alive! "Life is Beautiful! Pass it on!"
