Richard was named after two great nobles. He fit his name. He was very wise, kind and patient. Chivalrous, his promises were solid. His wit and ingenuity and loving heart created such a spark, but he was no pushover. That's how I knew him.
Rich's engaging personality involved him in every task or pleasure, for he loved life. It was a gift and not to be taken for granted. All of life's lessons made him the dynamic and charismatic man he was. There was no room for poor me and negativity was not in his vocabulary. He'd spontaneously kick up his heels and chuckle feeling positive, happy, lucky or blessed by a simple pleasure. He was country at heart. Hank Williams' and Randy Travis' songs, sang of many of his life's episodes.
During our marriage we traveled around the USA and other countries. Rich had a fondness for progressive card playing and did well in Black Jack and slot tournaments. We always enjoyed seeing a show while visiting a tinsel town. His favorite pastimes were riding four legged horses or the iron kind. He loved to be in the wind on his eagle adorned Harley-dresser, listening to his music. George Straits, "The Dance" always made him quiet.
Two weeks before Rich died, he realized cancer was winning his battle, he remarked, "If there is anything salvageable of me, help someone else. Would you please."
(HE GAVE A GIFT OF SIGHT TO TWO PEOPLE.)
His nightly prayers always ended with "God bless all those we love and all those that need love."
