DR. KATE SIMPSON
1972-2000

This square, depicting the structure of DNA, is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Kaetrin Simpson.

A molecular geneticist educated at Cambridge University and Imperial College , London , she won many scholarships and awards. Her dedication to science and her flair for molecular work led to an invitation from the Director of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Long Island , to become a Post-Doctoral Fellow there, at the age of 24 years.

A Scot, known to her family and friends as Kate, she was a much loved, caring, gentle and vivacious personality. She was studying the origins of replication, which would have had an impact on the treatment of cancer, the disease from which she died at the age of 27 years.

To all who had the privilege of knowing her, she remains a continuing presence and inspiration.
