GEORGE LITHCO, III "SKIPPER"
12-24-99 - 12-03-00
The illustration is by Richard Scarry from our son's favorite book, I AM A BUNNY. Skipper didn't understand yet that books told stories. What he really loved was the construction of books; turning the pages back and forth to new pictures.

During the three days that he was on a ventilator, Skipper's aunts came up with the idea of planting daffodils in his memory. Daffodils became our symbol for the reasons I wrote on the quilt square.

Skipper died as the result of being shaken by his daycare provider. We have begun to plant daffodils in public areas where they will bloom around the time of Shaken Baby Syndrome Awareness Week and act as a gentle reminder to people that no one should ever shake a baby.

Skipper's parents,
Peggy Whalen
George Lithco
