Our Donor Family Quilt Square represents the most painful experience of our family. Perhaps this is so because our daughter, Melissa never had a chance to say goodbye to us.
Like a thief in the night, our cherished child had a grade four brain aneurysm. We found her on the morning of October 6, l998 upstairs, unconscious in the hallway. After 24 hours of tests, she was declared "brain dead".
Our square shows her parents, brother and Melissa's two cats, shrouded in grief. Despite our sorrow, Melissa lives on in so many people. Even her eyes were given to someone to allow the miracle of sight.
We pray Melissa is at peace and we like to think of her as being totally free to come and go at will. She deserves "nothing less"!
