Lyric Marie Benson was a promising actress and model living in Manhattan. She was the "face" of the American Express campaign for the 2003 TriBeCa Film Festival and had achieved a quick string of successes in print, radio and television, including appearances on TV’s "All My Children," Comedy Central and "Law and Order: Criminal Intent."
On April 24, 2003 tragedy struck. Returning from her part-time job as a hostess at a SoHo Bistro, the 22-year-old woman’s life was unexpectedly cut short.
Without hesitation, Lyric’s family chose to donate her organs and tissues. They donated her kidneys, heart, lungs, liver, bone and skin. In addition, her pancreas was donated for islet cell research.

Lyric’s family established Lyric’s Gift Fund, a nonprofit effort designed to raise funds to educate the general public about the importance of organ donation. Thus far, a total of more than $30,000 has been contributed to the New York Organ Donor Network for this purpose.
