Obituary and Memorial Donation Information

Many donor families may be unaware of the options that can be offered in memory of their loved ones, and their selfless acts of organ and tissue donation. For instance, the New York Organ Donor Network supports the idea of offering families the option of having the donation recognized formally in their community by using our logo (or a butterfly logo) in the donor's obituary.

Suggested phrases in an obituary include:

(The donor) gave in death as he/she gave in life. He/she was an organ and/or tissue donor.

He/she was an organ and/or tissue donor.

He/she donated life through organ and/or tissue donation.

(The donor's) final act was to give the gift of life through organ and/or tissue donation.

(The donor) gave the gift of life through organ and/or tissue donation.

A request for financial contributions to the New York Organ Donor Network for the purposes of public education about organ and tissue donation may also be included in a donor's obituary. See Financial Contributions.
