Funeral Director's Role

One of the most commonly asked questions about organ and tissue donation is: "If I become a donor, is it still possible to have a regular funeral service?" Of course, in almost every instance, the answer is "yes." Donation does not interfere with funeral arrangements. Open casket services are possible.

Without the understanding and support of funeral directors, however, the task of the New York Organ Donor Network to educate the public about donation, and to obtain consent from family members for donation, is made much more challenging. This section, for funeral directors, addresses the most important questions.
