How We Can Help
Every family that has given consent for organ, eye and/or tissue donation is automatically enrolled in the New York Organ Donor Network's Family Services/AfterCare program, regardless of the transplantation outcome.
The Aftercare program services continues for two years, during which time the program provides a series of letters and communication by mail and phone, as well as special programs for donor families.
The program also provides bereavement information and makes referrals to counseling, support groups and advocacy groups, along with volunteer opportunities at the Donor Network.
In those cases when a donor family and recipients wish to communicate with each other or even meet, Aftercare facilitates this union. The department coordinates all communication, anonymous or otherwise, between donor families and transplant recipients.
