| The Donor Family Services at the
New York Organ Donor Network has a program of follow-up care
for donor families. This program, which we call AfterCare,
provides support and information to the families of donors by
way of a series of phone and mail contacts and special programs
that families are invited to attend.
The follow-up services of the Donor Network's AfterCare
Program include a phone call shortly after the donation to
let the family know the outcome of the donation, and more
calls and mail to help the donor families along their grief
journey.
Although there are planned contacts over a two-year period,
continued support is offered to any family who needs it for
a longer time.
In addition to the regular contacts, we may offer telephone
and e-mail counseling, grief literature, support groups and
peer counseling from another donor family. We are able to
help a family with referrals to community services such as
counseling or local support groups. We also offer information
about local, regional and national programs for families of
donors.
There are many volunteer opportunities through the Donor
Network, including the
Donor Family
Advisory Council.
